The operator of an emergency hotline in Belgium has been fired after he repeatedly told a Jewish caller that Israel does not exist and insisted that the country is really Palestine, JTA reports.
The caller was trying to arrange for the Israeli victims of last week's attacks in Brussels to return home. The operator, who only identified himself as "Zakaria," worked for the IPG call center.
"We wish to apologize to all members of the Jewish community and to the victims and their families in Israel," said IPG CEO Jac Vermeer.
