Police in San Francisco were caught sending dozens of offensive text messages over the past few months, even though a separate set of officers were under investigation for similar activities, the New York Times reports.
The messages in question contained derogatory references to African-Americans, Asians, and LGBT people. Officers in San Francisco are not unique in their conduct, but they have drawn the most attention due to the city's diversity.
The city's district attorney says that they messages are a sign of "some significant and deeper problems within the department." He added, "This conduct is clearly a danger to the administration of justice and makes the work of San Francisco police more difficult."
