Retired IDF General Doron Almog has commented on the announcement that he will receive the Israel Prize.

"The prize belongs to my son Eran, who was born with brain damage. He has never spoken and never called me 'dad.' Yet he has been the greatest teacher in my life," said Almog. "Eran is the one who taught me about the role of the weak in society. It is for them that I work and will continue to act throughout my life.

Almog founded the southern community of Aleh Negev, which is centered around helping people with disabilities.
