The explosives belt worn by the EgyptAir hijacker was fake and did not contain any explosive substances.
A statement issued by the Civil Airport Authority in Egypt explained that the authorities in Cyprus confirmed that the explosives were fake. The hijacker was arrested; all of the plane’s passengers were released.
