The Knesset plenum approved a preliminary vote on an amendment to the law on the Israeli flag, symbol and state anthem, initiated by MK Nava Boker and a group of MKs.
The amendment seeks to increase punishment for disrespecting the flag and dishonoring the state symbol from a maximum prison sentence of one year or small fine to a maximum prison sentence of three years or fine of 50,000 shekels.
