Egypt's Justice Minister is resigning, following his statement that he would even jail the Muslim prophet Mohammad if he had broken the law, Reuters reports.

Minister Ahmed al-Zend made his remark during a television interview on Friday, then immediately added, "God forgive me." The next day he apologized, but it was not enough to prevent the Prime Minister from asking him to step down.

It is not yet known who will replace Zend.

The previous Justice Minister also did not complete his term. He quit amidst controversy after saying that a garbage collector's son would not be eligible to be a judge.
