The Alternative for Germany (AfD), a German nationalist party, is gaining popularity due to its opposition to Chancellor Angela Merkel's stance on migrants, Associated Press reports.

Recent polls show that AfD is likely to perform well in three state elections this weekend: in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt. In Saxony-Anhalt, it is expected to receive up to 19 percent of the votes.

While other parties are not expected to invite AfD to join their governments, but it would still have a strong impact the politics.
