UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund has expressed its concern for Baquer Namazi, a former UNICEF official who is currently being held in an Iranian jail.
Namazi was a provincial governor in Iran and served as a representative for UNICEF in several African nations. He retired from the organization in 1996. He is 80 years old and his wife says that he needs special medication for his heart and other conditions.
Namazi's son Siamak has also been in prison since October. Both father and son have US and Iranian citizenship.
