Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin took part in an event this evening (Sunday) commemorating 100 years since the birth of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir.

During his speech, Netanyahu said that the goal of Arab terror will not come about and that the State of Israel will continue to flourish. This hope, he said, does not derive from fantasies but rather from the strength that will make out enemies understand that they cannot defeat us. "The attempt to explain terror as deriving from Palestinian frustration is not correct."

President Rivlin then said that "Shamir was faithful to his principles, yet walked on eggshells as true political compromises are so necessary to achieving goals. And the goal was always, above all, ensuring the State of Israel's peace and security. Not in another year, not in another decade, ensuring Israel's peace for generations to come."
