Gilad Kariv, the head of the Reform Movement in Israel and number 14 on the Labor party list, has demanded that Channel 20's broadcasting license be revoked. He claims that the channel, which advertises itself as the Heritage Channel, doe not give enough coverage to the Reform Movement.
Channel 20 released a response in which it fires back that "Mr. Kariv, you may be a movement, but you're not truly a movement in Judaism. Building yourself a separate facility at the Kotel - this isn't Judaism. To implement Christian customs in synagogues - this isn't Judaism. And you also aren't a heritage. For more than 3,000 years Judaism has passed from generation to generation, from father to son. It's what maintained us as one nation."
It continued: "So we say here openly: We don't think that Channel 20 needs to present attempts to split and divide the Jewish People. There are those in the world who make fake Rolexes, make fake Adidas shoes, but let's not make a fake Judaism, let's not split the Kotel into two.... If, because of Mr. Kariv, they take away our license, let them do so. The integrity of the Jewish People and the unity of the Kotel plaza and greater and more important than anything else. Even more than us."
