The number of olim [new immigrants] arriving in Israel rose for the year 2015. Several came from unexpected countries, including the Marshall Islands, Brunei, Martinique, Gibraltar, and Mauritius.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) stated that "About 30,000 olim arrived in Israel in 2015 and, unsurprisingly, most came from France and the former Soviet Union. In my additional role as Minister for the Development of the Periphery, the Negev and the Galilee, I initiated two large conferences to encourage aliyah from the US and France, which will take place soon. I hope that these steps will help increase the number of olim in 2016.
