The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia has announced it will respect a ceasefire recently brokered between the Assad regime and Syrian rebels.
"We, the People's Protection Units (YPG), give great importance to the process of cessation of hostilities announced by the United States and Russia and we will respect it, while retaining the right to retaliate... if we are attacked," YPG spokesman Redur Xelil said on his Facebook page.
Turkey had called for Kurdish forces not to be included in the ceasefire agreement.
The YPG has in recent months made major gains against both ISIS and Islamist rebels. Given that the ceasefire will not apply to jihadist groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda's Nusra Front - the YPG's main foes - it is unclear what effect their acceptance of a truce will have on the ground.
