President Reuven Rivlin eulogized the Erlau Rebbe, who passed away this morning (Monday).
"The Erlau Rebbe zt"l, the Elder of the Admorim, was a unique figure, who was loved and admired by the secular, religious and haredim. In his kind way he presented both the hasidic Hungarian Judaism and its opponents. In his yeshiva, which was specifically built in the neighborhood of Katamon, you could pray in an Ashkenazi style and in a hasidic manner," he said.
President Rivlin continued: "The passing of this public figure and community head, a Holocaust survivor and refugee who lost his father, mother and sisters in the prison and death camps, 'for the holiness of the Name,' as he put it, must also remind us of the respect and concern for the shrinking number of Holocaust survivors and the need to share their testimony until the last generation of our people. I offer my condolences to those who continue in his path, his family, his hasidim and his many admirers."
