US authorities have asked Volkswagen to develop electric cars in order to repent for its deceptive emissions tests, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reports.
The Environmental Protection Agency reportedly suggested that VW make the cars in its Tennessee factory and set up charging stations for electric vehicles around the country.
"Talks with the EPA are ongoing and we are not commenting on the contents and state of the negotiations," said a spokesperson for the company.
