Foreign Ministry Director-General Dr. Dore Gold on Thursday evening concluded an official visit to Moscow, marking 25 years since the establishment of relations between Russia and Israel. During the visit, Gold met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and senior officials close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Gold signed an agreement to regulate the dialogue between the two foreign ministries for 2016 and discussed with them a number of regional issues, first and foremost the situation in Syria. Gold emphasized the danger posed by transfers of advanced weapons to terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and the need to fight these transfers.

He also stressed the Palestinian issue and the obligation imposed on the Palestinian Authority to fight terrorism and incitement, and said that a political settlement with the Palestinians can only be achieved through direct negotiations between the parties.
