A senior office in the Egyptian police is suspected of being involved in the murder of an Italian student whose body was found last week.
Giulio Regeni came to Egypt in order to research unions and labor law, but disappeared on January 25. Prosecutors say that his body showed "clear signs" of torture.
The officer, Halad Shalabi, has previously been charged with torturing and killing prisoners. In 2003 he was sentenced to a year on probation for similar charges.
