The former head of the Russian anti-doping agency has died of a reported "massive heart attack." The organization, Rusada, announced that Nikita Kamaev "will remain in our memories as an experienced and understanding leader, distinguished by his high professionalism."
The former director-general of Rusada, however, told Tas news that Kamaev "had never complained about heart problems, at least to me."
Kamaev resigned from his position two months ago, after the World Anti-Doping Agency declared that Russian has widespread issues with corruption, doping, and extortion.
Until the country improves its practices, its athletes are barred from international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
