Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has declared that his country will never be an "Iranian province" to be used against Saudi Arabia. He further criticized Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian civil war.
Al-Hariri, who is a Sunni Muslim, was talking during a Beirut ceremony commemorating the eleventh anniversary of his father's assassination. This was only the third time he has been to Lebanon since 2011.
"We will not allow anyone to pull Lebanon to the camp of hostility towards Saudi Arabia and its Arab brothers," he said. "Lebanon will not be, under any circumstances, an Iranian province. We are Arabs, and Arabs we shall remain."
Saudi Arabia is a predominantly-Sunni country, while Iran and Hezbollah are Shi'ite.
