Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat hosted former US Secretary of State George Shultz and Special Envoy to the Middle East Martin Indyk today (Sunday). The two guests came as part of an international conference with the Israel Democracy Institute.
Barkat explained to the conference attendees about his plan to unify Jerusalem, in which Jews and Arabs live side by side, and presented the significant changes the city has seen in recent years.
Shultz, who served as Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, noted that "Jerusalem's uniqueness and strength is in the mosaic of its people. It takes a special mayor to handle such a city."
