The World Health Organization says that it expects researchers to find a link between the Zika virus and two medical disorders within the next few weeks, and clinical trials for a vaccine within 18 months.

"Two vaccine candidates seem to be more advanced: a DNA vaccine from the U.S. National Institutes for Health, and an inactivated product from Bharat Biotech, in India," said the organization's Assistant Director-General for Health Systems and Innovation, Marie-Paule Kieny.

The two diseases believed linked to Zika are microcephaly, which strikes babies, and Guillain-Barre, which is diagnosed in adults.
