Japan: First MP to request paternity leave resigns over affair

Japanese MP Kensuke Miyazaki has resigned after confessing to having an affair while his wife about to give birth, the BBC reports.

Miyazaki received widespread attention last month, as he was the country's first MP to ever ask for paternity leave. Many of his critics said that such a move would fail his constituents.

Miyazaki's wife, Megumi Kaneko, is also a politician. She gave birth on February 5.
