Jewish Home director MK Shuli Mualem-Rafaeli has commented on Ahinoam Nini Mami's decision to resign from the Union of Performing Artists over the awarding of a prize to Ariel Zilber.

"The resignation of Ahinoam Nini Mami is yet another example of the confusing and bizarre behavior of the self-appointed elite trying to control Israel's culture," said MK Mualem-Rafaeli.

She continued: "There are many who refuse to recognize that there are artists even among those who think differently and who have their own way of life. It would be one thing if we were talking about political art, but the rejection is simply overwhelming. Ahinoam Nini sees reality from a the narrow prism of elitism and paternalism, but the reality is stronger than her and there are great values for artists whose works have become staples of Israeli culture."
