The regional council for central Israel has given its approval to removing Palmahim's status as a resort, and instead turning it into a national park.
This move comes following a pledge by Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) to Environmental Minister Avi Gabai (Kulanu).
Kahlon says, "The beaches belong to the public and we will ensure that they remain so."
