The Knesset Assembly has given its preliminary approval to an amendment calling for expanding Bituah Leumi for mothers. It was submitted by MK Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid).
The bill would make Bituah Leumi include women who give birth after 22 weeks of pregnancy as mothers. The current law starts from 26 weeks.
The purpose of the proposal is to allow woman who have stillbirths to receive the same entitlements as other women who give birth.
