White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough told Fox News that President Barack Obama still intends to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
According to McDonough, Obama will look for Congressional approval for his plan. Should Congress not agree, he will consider other options.
"He feels an obligation to the next president. He will fix this so that they don't have to be confronted with the same set of challenges," said McDonough.
Closing the prison was one of Obama's main campaign pledges before he was first elected.
