The UN peace envoy for Syria was traveling to Saudi Arabia on Monday ahead of a visit to Iran for talks aimed at defusing tensions between the two regional heavyweights, the UN spokesman said, according to AFP.
Staffan de Mistura was due to arrive in Riyadh later Monday amid fears that the fury over the Saudi execution of a Shiite cleric could undermine international peace efforts in Syria.
