The United Nations reports that 980 Iraqi were killed last month, an increase from 888 in November.
The information comes from the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, which added that 506 of the December dead were civilians.
Baghdad Province lost the most, with 261. The next hardest-hit province was Nineveh, where 68 people were killed.
