A total of 55,219 people were killed in Syria during 2015, compared to the 76,021 killed in 2014. The figures come from the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to the organization's report, 13,249 civilians, including 2,574 children, were killed in the country's civil war. Another 7,798 rebels were killed while fighting President Bashar al-Assad's forces.
The fighting in Syria has been raging since 2011.
