New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city is preparing for the upcoming civil New Year celebrations at a record-breaking high security alert level, in light of fears of terror attacks.
According to the announcement, counter-terrorism unit forces are expected to secure Times Square, where roughly one million people are slated to ring in the New Year.
