The governor of the US state of Missouri, Jay Nixon, has declared a state of emergency due to the tornadoes sweeping the area.
So far, the tornadoes and their associated weather conditions have claimed the lives of at least 41 people. In addition, numerous buildings have been destroyed and more than a thousand flights were canceled.
