The UN General Assembly has passed its budget for 2016 and 2017. The budget totals $5.4 billion, $100 million less than the previous budget.

The approval "reflects the difficult global financial reality we have faced for a number of years," said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. He added that "funding continues to shrink - while demands on the United Nations grow."

This $5.4 billion is not connected to the UN's peacekeeping missions, the budget for which is $8.27 billion for the current year.
