After talking with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz (Likud) has given his approval to exporting natural gas from the Tamar field to the Dolphinus Holdings in Egypt.

"After years of arguments and delays, we are beginning to move forwards and to a situation in which Israel is a natural gas superpower in the region," said Steinitz. "Exporting to Egypt, in accordance with the government's approval, is the first sign of energy cooperation of many in the coming years with other countries in the region, such as Egypt, Jordan, Greece, and Turkey, as well as with Europe as a whole."
