MK Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union) has responded to Avichai Mandelblit's appointment as the next Attorney General.

"Avichai Mandelblit is a good man, but it's not right that a government secretary is chosen without break to be the Attorney General," claimed MK Livni. "The Attorney General is the one who is supposed to make decisions on the Prime Minister's and Cabinet members' conduct. If necessary, he must file charges should they break the law."

She continued: "The Attorney General must be outside of any connections, whether personal or political, to government ministers. This goes even more so for the PRime Minister during a time when the government's ideology includes attacking those who defend the justice system. At this time, we need an outside Attorney General, who will be strong and unconnected to the Prime Minister - the committee should be the one who recommends and appointment to the government and not vice versa."
