The newspaper Die Bild reports that Germany's foreign intelligence agency, the BND, is sharing information with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's secret service. This cooperation is occurring at the same time that Berlin insists Assad must be removed from power.

The newspaper quotes well-informed sources as saying that BND agents regularly travel to Damascus to consult with Syrian intelligence.

According to the article, the exchange is intended to get information about ISIS militants and to have a communication path in case German pilots are shot down over Syria.
