The United States has instructed its non-essential personnel to leave Burundi due to the recent increase in violence. The State Department also sent a warning to other Americans in the African country to leave "as soon as it is feasible to do so."
Eighty-seven people were killed in the capital of Bujumburu on Friday, when three military installations were attacked. The army says that 79 of the dead were "enemies," and eight were soldiers.
Witnesses told AFP that security forces executed young men, some of whose arms were tied behind their backs at the time.
