The United States is prepared to deploy attack helicopters in support of an Iraqi offensive to retake the ISIS-held city of Ramadi, AFP reports.

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told a US Senate hearing that the Iraqi army was beginning to move on the city in Iraq's Anbar province, which fell to ISIS in May after the extremist group swept out of its strongholds in Syria to capture parts of Iraq.

"The United States is prepared to assist the Iraqi army with additional unique capabilities to help them finish the job including attack helicopters and accompanying advisers if circumstances dictate and if requested by Prime Minister Abadi," he said.
