Russian national atomic energy company Rosatom has ceased its work on building a nuclear power plant in Turkey, Reuters reports. The pause comes among a series of discordant statements between the two countries, following Turkey's downing a Russian fighter jet.
Officials note that Rosatom is not tearing up the $20 billion contract, largely due to the strong compensation clauses. However, Ankara is looking to other possible companies to complete the project.
Turkey has been developing a nuclear power program for several years in an effort to reduce its dependence on foreign energy.
