Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) and his deputy, Yitzhak Cohen (Shas), have decided to give new benefits to Israelis who are originally from North Africa and Iraq.
Those who did forced labor in the years leading up to 1945 will receive payments totaling 3,600 shekels ($940 US) per year and complete exemptions when purchasing prescription drugs included in the plan.
The benefits are in recognition that the recipients suffered anti-Semitism and racism during the Second World War, but are ineligible for benefits given to Holocaust survivors.
