The Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee will discuss on Sunday the proposed “Seventh Day of Rest” bill, which seeks to shutter all businesses on the Sabbath.
The bill’s initiators, MKs Zohar and Amsalem, said that commercial activity on Shabbat hurts the weaker sectors. According to the MKs, small business owners cannot compete with large commercial companies open on Shabbat, forcing the smaller businesses to either open on Shabbat as well, or lose their profits to the competition.
