The US State Department said Monday that evidence "indicates the Russian aircraft violated Turkish airspace" before it was shot down last week, but stressed that Moscow and Ankara must work together to "de-escalate the situation."
Spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau told a briefing that while the US supported Turkey's right to defend its airspace, it also needed to "encourage dialogue" between Russia and Turkey.
