Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) and Welfare Minister Haim Katz (Likud) have published an amendment to the youth law that would allow courts to imprison minors aged 12 to 14, as long as the sentence would be implemented after they turn 14.

Until then, the criminals would remain in a closed housing facility.

At present, minors under the age of 14 cannot be sent to prison because the holding cells are not considered suitable for youths.

The amendment comes in response to the recent wave of terror and a number of brutal attacks carried out by preteens.
