A US Naval destroyer is visiting the Shanghai port, in an effort to signal that the US and China are maintaining cordial military relations despite their disagreements about the South China Sea, Associated Press reports.
The USS Stethem is an Arleigh-Burke class destroyer and is expected to take part in a joint search and rescue exercise with Chinese forces.
Tensions rose last month after the USS Lassen approached an artificial reef that China considers its sovereign territory.
