Andy White, the drummer for the Beatles' first US hit "Love Me Do," has passed away at the age of 85.
White grew up in Scotland, but worked as a session musician in London and in the US. In 1962 he was hired for a three-hour session with a growing band from Liverpool. They recorded the version of Love Me Do that was released in the US, as well as on the B-side of "P.S. I Love You."
The session's tambourine player, Ringo Starr, soon became the band's full-time drummer, though.
White played with a number of other big names, including Chuck Berry and Bill Haley. He also played the drums on Tom Jones's "It's Not Unusual."
