The Knesset assembly has rejected an amendment that would restrict a Prime Minister to two consecutive terms in office. The amendment was proposed by MK Merav Michaeli (Zionist Union).

Tourism Minister Yariv Levin (Likud) responded to the bill in the name of the government: "David Ben Gurion was luck that there weren't such creative people as MK Michaeli in his time. Menahem Begin was a true democrat, he believed that the public should choose its leaders, he did not even consider bringing such a bill that's aimed at preventing the public from democratically choosing who it feels is correct. When you conducted your election campaign you told the public that it's not a question of parties, it's a question of Binyamin Netanyahu - yes or no, and the public said yes. So now you are trying to use the law to remove him from the public arena."
