President Reuven Rivlin spoke on Wednesday at a mass prayer ceremony in honor of the Sigd festival, the central holiday of Israel’s Ethiopian population. The ceremony took place at Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv promenade.
“The State of Israel made a mistake in the way the country’s Ethiopian population was absorbed and treated… I believe that it is within our powers to make amends, to engender change. Perhaps we may not completely heal the wounds, but at the end of the process, we will be a better society, and more just society, more attentive.”
