Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, on a visit to Washington, on Tuesday voiced pessimism about the prospect of peace with the Palestinian Authority, suggesting the current stalemate was likely to remain in place.
"Any deal, or any arrangement, unilateral or negotiated, must have Israel maintain the ability to defend itself by itself against threat, including from territories that are ceded," Netanyahu said, according to AFP. "That's the most important provision," he added. "That is something that I don't see the Palestinians accepting now."
