MK Oren Hazan's (Likud) Basic Law amendment, which is aimed at officially enshrining the name of the country as "Israel," has unanimously passed in the Legislative Council.
Council head MK Nissan Slominski (Jewish Home) said that the Declaration of Independence is the only place in which the country's name is officially stated, and it is time for the name to be set in law.
The bill will now go to the Knesset Assembly for its first reading.
