MK Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union) commented on the police handling of the protests against the gas bill.
"Regarding the police's problematic conduct against gas bill protests we must distinguish between the police's role to maintain order and the criminal steps taken against protesters," said MK Livni.
She continued: "More than a year ago, as the Justice Minister, I decided to transfer the authority to file charges against protesters from the police to the prosecutors. This was in response to the cancellation and acquittal of dozens of cases that police submitted against demonstrators in the social justice protests. Israel cannot become a country in which people are scared to gather or protest. This is the basic democratic right of all citizens."
