Kosovo failed on Monday to gain the two-thirds majority needed to become a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Ninety-two member states supported Kosovo's bid, while 50 voted against and another 29 abstained. The loss was likely the result of Russian pressure to prevent the independent republic from gaining full member status at the international body.
