A Be'er Sheva court has rejected a human rights organization's appeal against the Interior Ministry's policy of deporting illegal immigrants to a third country. According to the policy, fake asylum seekers are jailed if they refuse to leave Israel.
The court declared that sending a denied asylum seeker to an unrelated country is permitted by international law, as long as they ensure the basic rights of those expelled. Going by this standard, it says that Israel's practices are permitted.
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) and Interior Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) both praised the ruling.
